Between the Lines: The Painting I Didn't Plan
Original oil paintings are sometimes born from moments you did not plan. This painting, Between the Lines, is a good example. It did not come from an orderly plan but from something that simply happened in the studio.
Sometimes the Painting Decides for You
I had a canvas that had been standing in the studio for a few weeks. I started it twice and wiped it. I did not know what I wanted to do with it, I only knew that something had not settled. One day I just sat by the table, with a cup of coffee and a clear head, and simply started to paint without thinking too much. The colors I chose were not the colors I thought I would choose. The figure that appeared on the canvas was not the figure I had planned. But something in the process felt right, as if the painting chose itself and I only helped it come into being. That happens to me sometimes, and I love it.
On the Style: Figurative Geometric
The figure in Between the Lines is built from geometric shapes that together compose a recognizable human figure. This is the style that occupies me lately: to take something that is realistic at its base and break it into shapes, lines, and fields of color that speak for themselves. What is interesting about this approach is that the viewer does part of the work. They see lines and shapes and from that assemble a figure, search for a face, try to understand the story. Each person finds something slightly different, and that is exactly what I look for in my work.
The Technique: Oil on Canvas
The technique of oil painting has existed for hundreds of years and still has no substitute when it comes to depth, presence, and the liveliness of color. Oil paint lets me work slowly, lay layer over layer, build the painting gradually. Each layer adds something to the one beneath it. In Between the Lines I worked with a varied, rich palette. I wanted the colors to be alive and direct, to speak among themselves without apology. The background supports the figure without losing itself, and every area of the painting holds its own even when you look at it alone.
Original Oil Paintings: Why It Matters to Collectors
People often ask me what they are looking for when they want to buy original oil paintings for the home. My answer is always the same: an original oil painting is a conversation that does not end the second it is hung on the wall. It has a depth that changes with the light, the hour, your mood. You see it differently in the morning and differently in the evening. What I love about seeing my paintings in people’s homes is that they become part of everyday life. It is not just decor. It is something present, reminding you that there is beauty in life if you only look for it. Original oil paintings by an Israeli artist add to a home a presence entirely different from prints and reproductions.
Every painting I sell comes with a certificate of authenticity. It is not just paperwork, it is an expression of the fact that the work is original, that someone sat in front of it and worked on it for long hours, that it holds something that cannot be reproduced. Owning an original oil painting is a completely different experience from buying a beautiful print. When people ask me how to choose original oil paintings for the home, I always say the same thing: choose a painting you cannot stop looking at. Not the one that matches the sofa, not the one that goes with the wall color. The one that speaks to you. A painting that speaks to you will keep speaking to you years after you hang it.
What Remains When the Painting Is Done
When a painting is finished I always stand in front of it for a few minutes and ask myself whether it said what I wanted it to say. With Between the Lines the answer was yes. It said something about the way we see one another, about the lines we draw between ourselves and others, about what is visible and what stays hidden. The name came naturally. Between the Lines, because that is exactly what the painting asks of you: not only to look at what you see, but to search for what lies between.
The Painting Is Available
Between the Lines is an original oil painting on canvas, one of a kind. It was created in my studio in Tel Aviv and went through a slow process of creation, erasing, and rebuilding, until what remained is what remained. It is offered for sale with a certificate of authenticity and will ship with protective packaging. If it speaks to you and you want to know more, I would be glad to hear from you.
